Study Finds 9/11 Toxic Dust Linked to Heart Trouble Risk for Children

A recent study indicates that exposure to perfluoroalkyl substances, or PFASs, contained in dust particles released into the homes of New Yorkers by the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, seems to be associated with abnormally high cholesterol levels in young adults who were children at the time of the terrorist attacks.

Cancers of Former Students and Teachers Linked to 9/11 Toxic Dust

At least 12 former students who attended schools south of Canal Street on 9/11, or during the eight months that followed, have filed claims with the federal government for World Trade Center-related cancers. Dozens of others have been diagnosed with well-recognized 9/11 respiratory illnesses. Scores of teachers have fallen ill, and, tragically, many have died from their WTC illnesses.

FDNY Adds 32 Names to WTC Memorial Wall

On September 7 at FDNY Headquarters at 9 MetroTech Center in Brooklyn, the FDNY added the names of 32 recently deceased members to the department’s World Trade Center Memorial Wall. Each of these members succumbed to 9/11-related illnesses that resulted from their participation in rescue and recovery work at Ground Zero.

WTC Health Program Declines to Add Parkinson’s Disease to List of 9/11-Related Conditions

The two petitions from 9/11 survivors met the threshold test in that they “suggested a potential association between exposure to known 9/11 agents and Parkinson’s disease and parkinsonism, including manganese-induced parkinsonism,” but ultimately were rejected for insufficient evidence of causation.
