Barasch McGarry, the Only Law Firm Represented at Research to Care: WTC Health Program Community Engagement Event

On Saturday, October 21st, Michael Barasch and his associates, Lee London, Mariya Atansova, Jennifer Jimenez, Richard Alles, and Rebecca Forman, attended the World Trade Center Health Program’s first ever Research to Care Community Engagement event. Barasch McGarry was the only law firm in attendance. The event was a unique opportunity to hear from the WTC Health Program’s leading researchers and program administrators about the work that has been done (and continues to be done) to treat, monitor, and support the thousands of first responders, survivors, and volunteers exposed to the toxic fumes and dust on 9/11 and the 8 months following. Mr. Barasch and his associates were pleased to hear that research grants are still being approved and that innovative treatment methods are being utilized. New illnesses are being considered.

In the afternoon, those in attendance were able to speak with researchers and clinicians in small group discussions focused on various health topics. Mr. Barasch took this opportunity to express his concern that the Health Program did not always include a full-body scan for skin cancer, one of the most prevalent cancers that has affected those who were in the exposure zone. If you have not gotten checked for skin cancer, please do so!

Mr. Barasch also asked the Health Program to do a better job helping downtown office workers and residents. They are often forced wait many months for an appointment and even longer to have their WTC illnesses certified. First responders get their exams and certification must faster. This is unacceptable!
